Nothing in the world is softer and weaker than water; yet for attacking things that are firm and strong, there is nothing equal to it. The weak overcomes the strong. The soft overcomes the hard. Everyone in the world knows this, but no one can practice it.

The supreme good is like water. Water nourishes all things without contending. It flows to places people despise. Thus it is close to the Tao.
